Abstract
This debate article follows Steccolini’s (2019) appeal for
further discussion on gender budgeting in the academic
literature. It explains why governments at every level need
to develop gender responsive budgetary initiatives. This
importance is highlighted by the needs of the current
context—namely to better deal with public financial
management in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic
and to attend to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
(SDG).
